Bennie R. Alford Sr., 87, of Tyler, Texas, passed peacefully away on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at home. He was born on June 16, 1937, in Pickton, Texas to Roy and Lela Alford. Ben was a proud veteran having served in the United States Marine Corp. He worked in the battery business for over 40 years. He started and owned Ark-La-Tex Battery Co. with offices in Texas and Louisiana. He enjoyed hard work, camping, fishing, and family gatherings. Ben was a Christian and enjoyed listening to Southern Gospel Music. He pastored Grace Bible Baptist Church for many years and was an interim pastor at Red Springs Baptist. He loved the Lord and led many people to Christ.
Ben is survived by his wife, Anne, and his three children, Katherine Downing, Lela Maple (Craig), and Bennie R. Alford Jr. (Alice). He was dearly loved by his grandchildren; Lindsay Downing, Jessica Starks (Mark), Chelsea Calvert (Michael), Megan Ramirez, Josh Long (Kacy), Stephanie Alford (Brittany), and Mason Alford (Amanda). He had 9 great grandchildren. He was blessed with three bonus children: Kathy Fason (Charles), Kenny Slider (AJ), and Stephen Slider (deceased). He had many bonus grandchildren as well. Ben is also survived by one brother, Jim Alford (Carol), and one sister Betty Spigener. He loved being “Uncle Ben” to his numerous nieces and nephews.
Ben is preceded in death by his parents and siblings – Ross Williamson, HestaMae Schofield, LaVern Alcorn, Dot Fletcher and EJ (Bud) Alford.
Funeral Services and Burial will be at Boren-Conner Funeral Home and Cemetery in Bullard, Texas, on Saturday, December 7th, 2024, at 10:00am. Visitation will be Friday the 6th from 5:00pm-7:00pm.
