Carla Jean Brewer

In Memory of Carla - A Force of Nature

September 10, 1961 – August 8, 2026

Carla Jean Brewer was a beautiful, unforgettable soul whose life was filled with love, laughter, family, and the kind of beautiful chaos that made every moment with her uniquely her own.

Born in Farmington, New Mexico, Carla was named after Hurricane Carla—and anyone who knew her would probably agree that the name was fitting. She was a force of nature in her own right: strong, passionate, spirited, and impossible to forget. She had a presence that could fill a room and a personality that left an impression wherever she went.

Carla graduated from Eastwood High School in 1979. She went on to work for American Airlines for 18 years, where she built friendships and created memories that stayed with her throughout her life.

She loved deeply and fiercely. Most loved of all were her children, James Cole Harper and Hannah Ray Blake, and her first granddaughter, Tatum Nicole Blake, whom she loved more than anything in this world. They were among the greatest joys of her life, and the love she had for them was immeasurable.

Those who knew Carla would remember her for her spirit, her laughter, her strength, and the countless moments—big and small—that made life with her so special. She was never ordinary, and she was never meant to be. She was simply Carla: a force, a fighter, a loving mother and grandmother, and a one-of-a-kind soul.

Her life was sometimes messy, sometimes hilarious, sometimes challenging, and always full of love. It was a beautiful chaos, and those fortunate enough to share it with her would not trade it for anything.

Carla was preceded in death by her parents, James Roy and Barbara Jean Brewer and Roy Wayne and Margie Marie B. Morrison and her sisters, Kathryn Ann Goerdel and Patricia Marie Fullingim.

She is survived by her nephews, William Bradley Casey and Richard Brandon Tuell; nieces, Haley Michelle Fullingim and Lindsey Marie Burns; great-nieces, Aliyah Kristine Casey-Aleman and Wren Ann Tuell; and great-nephews, David James Casey and Ryker Wade Burns.

She also leaves behind other loving family members and lifelong friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

Carla's passing leaves an immeasurable emptiness in the hearts of those who loved her. But alongside the grief is gratitude—for the time we were given, the stories we will continue to tell, the laughter we will never forget, and the love that will never leave us.

Carla's life may have come to an end, but her love did not. She will continue to live on in the people she touched, in the memories we share, and in every heart that was lucky enough to know and love her.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites those wishing to honor Carla to contribute to a living memorial in her name. A memorial tree, yellow roses, and a hummingbird garden will be planted in her memory for each of her children—a place where her beautiful chaos can continue to grow.

Additional services will be held at a later date as we gather to lay Carla to rest. Details will be shared at a later time.

Rest peacefully, Carla. You were a force of nature, and your beautiful chaos will live on in all of us.

We love you to the moon and back.
