Carol Jean (Banks) Smith, 78 of Grand Saline, passed away October 18, 2024, following a brief illness.  A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Boren-Conner Funeral Chapel in Bullard, TX with Robie Dodson officiating.

Ms. Smith was born October 22, 1945, to Thayes and Nellie Banks.  She was preceded in death by her mother and father, sisters Edris Butler and Dorothy Oxford, and her beloved son, Lance Smith.

“Nan”, as she was lovingly called, was a receptionist at Locke Lord LLP in Dallas for many years.  Her hobbies included crocheting, reading, shopping, watching SYFY movies and Court TV.

There was never a doubt how much she loved her family. 

She is survived by her son Duane Smith of Grand Saline; son and daughter-in-law Brian and Amy Smith of Mesquite; daughter-in-law Sharon Smith of Grand Saline;  grandchildren Darren Smith, Shelbe Holland, Chase Smith, Dylan Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Peyton Smith, Rae Smith, Freya Holland and Lenny Smith.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the entire staff of UT Health Tyler – Cardiac Care Intensive Care Unit for their kindness, support and care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to East Texas SPCA, a cause Nan was extremely passionate about.
