Carolyn Sue “Sally” Atwood, age 65, of Tyler, Tx passed away September 13, 2022. Sally was the most loving mother to her five children and nine grandchildren, and she was the adored wife of Johnny Atwood for 30 years.
Sally was born in the hot July summer of 1957 where she was raised in a faith-based home alongside her two sisters and brother. Throughout Sally‘s life she was taught strong family morals, that of which she was able to pass on to her family, and that your relationship with God should always be a priority. These values she later instilled in her grandchildren as well.
Sally was a brave and very courageous woman who maintained her faith through any obstacles she faced. In October 2020 she was officially diagnosed with bulbar onset ALS, she knew it would be her toughest fight she’s ever endured. Sally‘s strength and perseverance was that of an army throughout her almost two year battle in which she not only fought for herself, but for the rest of the people battling ALS and other neurodegenerative diseases. Anyone who knew Sally or heard her story was inevitably left filled with the utmost respect and admiration for her.
Sally had the most beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes that reflected her joy and beauty inside and out. Her contagious smile and laugh left you filled with happiness and a warm heart. To be in the same room as her was special, and so was she.
Sally is preceded in death by her late mother, Veda Ashby, and her father, David Allen. Also preceding her in death is her beloved son, by marriage, Jake Atwood. Sally is survived by her husband Johnny Atwood and John, Tanya, Jeff, and Calli. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Kailynn, Gavyn, Grant, Bertie, Gwyneth, Ansley, Harper, Jurnee, and Brynne. Additionally, she leaves behind her siblings, Daveda, Debbie, and David. A key role in her survival and quality of life was provided by Vanessa Allen, as well as the remainder of the Heart to Heart hospice team.
Sally was deeply loved and adored by many more family members and friends, and in turn she adored everyone in her life as well.
