Delma Rae Cook Halsey Rainwater, 90, of Jacksonville, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on January 24, 1935, in Pineville, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Fred Herbert Cook and Lissie Faye Mullens Cook Daugherty.
Delma was also preceded in death by her sister Cletis Calhoun of Tampa, Florida, brothers Herbert Cook of Kopperston, West Virginia, and Billy Joe Cook of Pineville, West Virginia.
Delma was first married to the late Gerald Halsey of Saulsville, WV, with whom she raised four children. She later married the late David Rainwater of Lufkin, Texas, and lovingly helped raise his twin sons. Delma retired from Baxter Manufacturing in Jacksonville, Texas, where she was employed for 18 years, after previous other employment.
Delma was an avid reader who especially loved reading stories of the old west, as well as classic western television series. She was a devoted animal lover and cherished her two dogs Ringo and Rascal. Her other hobbies included fishing, bird watching and growing flowers, especially roses.
She was a woman of faith who began every Sunday morning by watching her favorite preachers on television. She shared this ritual with her sisters through conversations on Messenger. Even at the age of 90, Delma remained sharp, using her cell phone daily to keep in touch with her family and friends until the week of her passing.
Delma is survived by her four children: Connie Sanders and her husband Curtis of Lexington, South Carolina, along with their children Kristen and Ashley; Kevin Halsey and his wife Teresa of Brownsboro, Texas, and their children Tesa, Cody and Chasity; Rhonda Halsey-Richards of Holden, West Virginia, and her children Brandy Vance Mullins and husband Gary, and Caleb Vance and his wife Candace; and Mark Halsey and his wife Deborah of Dialville, Texas, and their daughters Amanda and Ashley. She is also survived by Craig Rainwater of Frankston, Texas and Kirk Rainwater of Lake Palestine, Texas.
Delma was blessed with 21 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brother Selby Cook of Pineville, West Virginia and four sisters: Reva Buchanan McMillen of West Lafayette, Ohio, Sonja Graybeal Brewer of Tyler, Texas, Mary Jane (Janie) Williams of Jacksonville, Texas,
and Trilla Cook of Houston, Texas. She leaves behind a large number of nieces and nephews, too many to name but each dearly loved.
Her family wishes to express special gratitude to Janie, lovingly remembered as Delma’s “earth angel” whose devotion, care, and countless acts of kindness—driving to appointments, running errands, and offering daily support—brought light and comfort to Delma’s life.
Known for her smile and gentle spirit, Delma delighted in offering small candies to the nurses at Legacy Nursing Home in Jacksonville, Texas, where she spent her final days.
Arrangements are in care of Boren-Conner Funeral Home, Bullard, Texas. Final arrangements are to be announced.
