Diane Cecielle Hasti was born June 13, 1946, in San Diego, California. Diane passed on October 12, 2024, in Rusk, Texas at the age of 78. Diane met her husband, Michael David West Sr., at a USO dance and married on November 7, 1964, and they remained together for 60 years until her death. Dancing was an important part of their lives together which they continued until recent years, and it included ballroom dancing, country dancing, and square dancing. Diane spent many years as a Girl Scout leader guiding many backpacking trips (including the Grand Canyon 11 times and Mount Whitney) and canoeing trips and touched many lives. Diane enjoyed playing cards and games with the family. Diane loved to travel and made it to all the United States, Alaska being the last in their first year of retirement. She traveled to England, Canada, Mexico, and Guam. Diane also enjoyed sewing and making quilts. Diane was a military/civil service wife and worked in various jobs some being an Account Manager in a bank, Administrative Assistant to a Dean at the University of San Diego and Managed the Tutoring Center for Cape Cod Community College before retiring. Diane was an example to us all of what a lifetime learner is and returned to college in her 50’s to earn her bachelor’s degree from the University of San Diego. Diane lived her life gracefully as a kind giving person and died gracefully at home in the care of her husband, daughter, and daughters’ family.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, George and Laura Hasti and three children (Christine Diane West, Charlene Joanne West, and Richard Roy West). Diane is survived by her husband, Michael West Sr. ; her son, Michael West Jr. and daughter-in-law Stephanie West; her daughter Charlene Crockett and son-in-law Wayne Crockett; her 9 grandchildren and six great grandchildren with one great grandchild to join us soon. Diane is survived by her 4 siblings; brother Matt Hasti and sister-in-law Kathy Hasti, brother Rick Hasti, sister Joanne Timroth and brother-in-law Drew Timroth, brother Bernard Hasti and sister-in-law Mary Hasti; and many nieces and nephews.
Diane will be missed by all. The family is comforted that she is no longer in pain and is in heaven with her heavenly father. One day we will all be together again.
A memorial service will be held at the Boren-Conner Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Texas on October 25, 2024, at 2:00pm for those friends and family who are able to attend. At this time, we do not have a date for the celebration of life that will occur in San Diego, California when Diane’s urn will be placed in the veterans’ wall at the Miramar Federal Cemetery as her final resting place and a pre-assigned place will be assigned for dad next to her.
