He attended Woodlawn High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy at 17. While serving aboard the USS Ingersoll as a shipfitter (welder), he earned his diploma. While stationed in Virginia, he studied Police Science at the University of Northern Virginia. At 27, he transitioned into U.S. Customs, where he thrived, becoming fluent in Spanish to enhance his work at the border. He retired from government service at 50 in Tucson, Arizona, but remained active, later working as a school bus driver for the Vail School District.
After his first marriage ended, Jack returned to Texas and settled in New Summerfield. There, he met and married Lydia Cartwright Duck, with whom he shared 17 years of love and adventure. He enjoyed restoring old vehicles, welding, and mentoring his children and grandchildren. Known for his welcoming nature and warm hugs, Jack cherished time spent on his porch with family and friends.
