Jason Paul Ghrist

April 15, 1977 – January 28, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jason Paul Ghrist, who went home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2025, at the age of 47. Jason was born on April 15, 1977, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Timothy and Antoinette Ghrist.

Jason spent his formative years in Mombasa, Kenya, where his parents served as missionaries. He attended Rift Valley Academy in Kijabe, Kenya, before graduating from Legacy High School in Tyler, Texas, in 1996.

Jason’s true calling was for the lost and the afflicted. He was a masterclass at sitting with people in their mess, as well as in grief. He truly was the salt of the earth.

Jason’s life was marked by his deep love for Jesus and his unwavering love for others. He was a fierce protector, a gentle listener, and a devoted friend. Those who knew him will remember his vulnerability, transparency, kindness, and his steadfast faith.

Jason was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and June Ghrist, as well as Norris and Dorothy Hand. He leaves behind the love of his life, Sherry Ghrist; his inherited children, Christopher and his wife Stephanie Maldonado, Maria Castaneda, and Brandon Castaneda; his inherited grandchildren, Christopher Maldonado, Mia Boseman, and Micah Boseman; his parents, Timothy and Antoinette Ghrist; his brothers and their wives, Joshua and Maggie Ghrist and Joel and Eloise Ghrist; and his nephews and niece, Matthew Ghrist, Caleb Ghrist, Jordan Ghrist, Owen Ghrist, Henry Ghrist, Sam Ghrist, and Charlotte Ghrist.

Jason’s legacy of faith, love, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those he touched. Though we grieve his passing, we find comfort in knowing he is in the presence of his Savior.

A celebration of Jason’s life will be held at Grace Community Church on Old Jacksonville Road, in the Chapel, on Saturday, February 8th, at 10 a.m. Visitation with the family will begin at 9 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lighthouse for Christ Eye Center in Mombasa, Kenya, in honor of Jason’s passion for bringing spiritual sight to the lost. Donations may be made at: https://lighthouseforchrist.org/donate/.
