A funeral service for Jerry Dean Hicks Sr., age 71, is scheduled for 1 o'clock in the afternoon Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Boren-Conner Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Brother Tommy Mabry will officiate. He will be laid to rest at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Maydelle. Jerry Hick Sr was born in Palestine, Texas on October 2, 1946. He grew up and established deep roots in East Texas were much of his family lived in the Jacksonville area. Jerry enlisted in the army in 1964 serving our country during the Vietnam War. Jerry lived a full life with no regrets. As he said in his last days, with peace in his heart, "It's been a good run". Whether a sports bet, a poker game with the boys or ice cream with the grandbabies, Jerry enjoyed life to the fullest. He enjoyed the simple life that he had, spending time on the front porch with his dog Nana, giving his wisdom and opinions to his children or anyone else that he felt needed to hear his advice. He was proud of his family and his life. Jerry's life came to a close on November26, 2017 in the presence of his children and siblings. He died with full military honors and will be laid to rest beside his mother Ninnie in the Pleasant Holy Cemetery in Maydelle, Texas. Survived by Siblings Jimmy Sides and wife Diane Martha Grant and deceased husband Tommy Grant Children Tammy Russell, husband Mel Russell GC- Chad Cannon, wife Daniela, GGC- Caedon and Canyon GC- Ryan Wilgers, fiance Sarah Wilgers David Hicks, fiance Sherri Gagliano GC- Alyssa Hicks Jerry Hicks Jr, wife Melissa Hicks GC- Jerrod Hicks GC- jayden Hicks Shannon Hicks, wife Alisha Hicks GC-Katie Molly isabell Kaydence Angelina Matthis So in all he had 5 children, 9 grandchildren, and 2 Great-Grand children
