Johnny Gene Clark Smelley

Johnny Gene Clark Smelley, born October 18, 1969, in Jacksonville, TX, went home to be with his Savior and Lord on February 20, 2023, in Tyler, TX.

A Celebration of Life service is scheduled at 3:00 pm, Sunday, February 26, 2023, at Calvary Baptist Church in Jacksonville. Rev. Charles Gaskin and Rev. Lester Foreman will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church at 2:00 pm, directly before the service. Services are under the direction of Boren-Conner Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

Johnny was a devoted man of God who served his Savior faithfully. He loved sharing his faith boldly with everyone God put in his path. Johnny taught Sunday School at Calvary Baptist Church and gave his time to not only keep the church looking beautiful, but also taking care of the people he loved. Johnny blessed so many people and was an example of God's faithfulness as he kept his smile and inspirational attitude through all of his health struggles.
Johnny was a loving and devoted husband, brother, and father figure to his two nieces.

Johnny was preceded in death by grandparents George and Vera "Bill" Clark, grandmother-in-law Bettie Crow Pettus, father-in-law, Barry Campbell and mother, Neda Clark McRight.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Wendy Smelley of Jacksonville, sister Sara Powell Leone and husband Paul Leone of Jacksonville and nieces, Sorrow Powell and Envy Powell, the daughters of his heart. He is also survived by mother-in-law, Gayla Campbell of Jacksonville, sister-in-law, Jennifer Socia and husband Tony of Tyler, nephew, Gabriel Socia of Tyler, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other extended family and loving friends.
