Kathy Diane Smith Martin

(December 16, 1952 - February 1, 2026)

Kathy Diane Martin (Smith), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on the evening of February 1, 2026, at the age of 73. After bravely enduring a season of several health challenges, Kathy is now peacefully at rest. A longtime resident of Arp, Texas, originally from Whitehouse, Texas, Kathy lived a life centered on family, faith, and quiet joys.

Born on December 16, 1952, in Tyler, Texas, to Billy Calbert Smith and Katherine Bernice Vickers Thompson, Kathy was a devoted member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She worked in security at UT Health (formerly East Texas Medical Center) until her retirement, where her steady presence and kindness were appreciated by many.

Kathy's greatest love was her family. She shared 54 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Joel Martin, cherishing simple moments together—playing dominoes with friends, riding motorcycles through the countryside, and enjoying nature's beauty. She was a loving mother to her children and a devoted Nana to her grandchildren. Known for being direct, yet overflowing with love, she doted on them endlessly and made sure they always knew they were cherished.

Kathy was a masterful cook in her healthier years, filling homes with warmth and delicious meals. She treasured time with friends and family, and even her beloved dog Sassy (though she'd playfully insist she didn't like the dog) brought her companionship and smiles. Her resilience, faith, and unwavering love left a lasting mark on everyone who knew her—and her impacts on others will be felt for years to come.

She is survived by her husband, Joel Martin; her daughter, Melissa Whitting and husband Brad; her grandchildren, Joseph Rose and wife Brandy; Brittney Oney and husband Kyle; Morgan Whitting, Bailey Whitting, John Whitting, Great-Grandchildren, Kinsleigh Rose, Ryder Graham, Brooklynn Oney, Elaina Griffin, Paisley Rose, Hazleigh Graham, Dovie Oney, and Callie Rose; her sister Frieda Stevens and husband Kerry; her brothers Mike Smith and wife Joan; Tim Smith and wife Gail; her sisters-in-law Cathy Smith and Denise Collins and husband Ray; along with a wide circle of extended family and dear friends.

Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Billy Calbert Smith; her mother, Katherine Bernice Vickers Thompson; her Brother, Phillip Lynn Smith; and her son, Billy Joe Martin.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, February 20, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Boren-Conner Funeral Home, 550 S Dr M Roper Parkway, Bullard, Texas 75757. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the many sweet friends and extended family members who offered help, prayers, and support during her final months.

Kathy's love, strength, and devotion will live on in perpetuity among all of those she touched.
