Martha Jean (Marjean) Phillips passed peacefully into Heaven on Saturday, September 9, 2023, in the presence of family at the age of 98. She was born February 14, 1925, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Howard and Carolyn Harman of Terre Haute, IN. She attended college and married at the U.S. Navy chapel in San Francisco in 1944 during WWII and had four children.
She was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Tyler, TX. She loved the 23rd Psalm, the words of Christ, her family and every stranger. She was a wonderful cook, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was a member of a literary club and achieved Bronze Life Master in bridge.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Carolyn Clay, son Paul Phillips, brothers Jerry Harman, Washington, IN, and Jacob Harman, Prospect, KY; and sister-in-law, Harriet, Bedford, IN.
She is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law: Todd and Frieda Phillips, Tyler; Janie Phillips, Winnsboro; Jim and Mischa Phillips, Tyler; one brother, Howard of Bedford, IN; two sisters-in-law, Helen of Washington, IN, and Barbie of Prospect, KY; nine grandchildren, Ruston Phillips, Matt Phillips (Shannon), Tyler Phillips, Pat Clay (Susan), Michael Phillips (Misty), John Phillips (Lisa), Jennifer Harrison (Jeremy), Austin Phillips (Lauren) and Audrey McAlpine (Adam); sixteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A private celebration of her life will be held by family.
