September 12, 1952 - September 22, 2025
Peggy Harraid, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in the early hours of September 22, 2025, in Tyler, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. After more than 20 years of bravely facing multiple health challenges with her characteristic strength and warmth, Peggy, 73, is now at rest.
Born on September 12, 1952, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Peggy lived a life full of love, laughter, and connection. She was the heart of her family, a fierce cheerleader for her four sons-Todd, Brad, Jonathan, and Jamie-instilling in them the values of toughness, honesty, directness, and perseverance that shaped their individual successes. Her boundless love extended to her many grandchildren, who were the light of her life, bringing her endless joy. Above all, Peggy’s deepest love was for her husband of over 45 years, Johnny Harraid, whose extraordinary care and devotion carried her through her illnesses. Their cherished short trips to Colorado from their home in Dalhart, Texas, were among her favorite memories, filled with adventure and togetherness. Peggy’s vibrant spirit shone through in her lifelong love for her pet dogs, from her beloved whippets and Josey, who passed a few years ago, to her most recent companion, a Chihuahua named Oliver, who climbed all over her with endless affection. Oliver now stays close to Johnny, carrying on Peggy’s love by his side. She also held a special bond with Johnny’s grandmother, affectionately known as Maw-Maw, and a deep, cherished relationship with Johnny’s mother, Pauline Harraid, both of whom enriched her life profoundly. Peggy had a gift for making everyone feel valued-whether through her infectious laugh, a kind word, or the quiet way she listened, really listened, offering guidance, a fresh perspective, or just a patient ear until you felt lighter. Her resilience and unwavering spirit inspired all who knew her, leaving a legacy of love and lessons in living life fully.
She is survived by her husband Johnny Harraid; her sister Gail Ozment and her husband Donald; her brother Steve Zayler and his wife Jamie; her brother David Pittinger and his wife Kathy; her brother Ted Pittinger and his wife Robyn; her son Todd Whitting and his wife Tara; her son Brad Whitting and his wife Melissa; her son Jonathan Harraid; her son Jamie Harraid and his wife Brooke; her many grandchildren; her beloved dog Oliver; and a wide circle of friends and family. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Marge Pittinger, and her mother- and father-in-law, John and Pauline Harraid.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 11, 2025. It will be a come-and-go style celebration held between 1:00 – 4:00 PM at Berryville City Hall, 23170 County Road 4117, Frankston, Texas 75763. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Hospice of East Texas, who provided compassionate care in her final days. The family also asks for continued prayers and support for Johnny as he navigates this new chapter without his beloved Peggy. Peggy’s love and lessons remind us all to make the most of life, as it moves fast. Her light will shine on in the hearts of those she touched.
