Peggy Rose Sampson Rozell was born on January 10, 1958 to Harry and Emma (Sue) Sampson in Houston. She was the only family member lucky enough to be born in the Lone Star State. Her school years were spent in Irving, Amarillo, and Athens. She attended Tyler Junior College and obtained her Dental Hygienist certification, but her ultimate career turned out to be in something quite different – the Law.
Peggy worked for several lawyers in Tyler. She loved what she did and she did it well. She often said she wished she had gone after her law degree, but other things took precedence over that, and that happened to be her two precious girls, Jennifer and Jill.
Peggy was involved in everything the girls were in. She especially loved watching them perform as cheerleaders and school mascots. She rarely missed an event. She was always there to support them in everything they did. She was very involved in the youth ministry at Friendly Baptist Church and loved the Lord with all her heart.
But tragedy struck in 2021. Jill was killed in a car accident just a few weeks after she graduated from high school. The family was devastated. But they leaned on each other, on their friends, and on their girls’ friends during those difficult times. Peggy was so very proud of Jennifer as she continued her education and became a Doctor of Audiology.
The lights of her life were her grandchildren: Emma, Hannah, and Clay. She loved looking at their pictures and being a part of their cheering section.
Through the years, Peggy’s health began to deteriorate. The last several years, she lived at Garden Estates where she made good friends with the staff and residents. She would push China, her little long-haired Chihuahua, through the halls and everyone knew who they were. Her smile and friendly words made her a favorite among the residents.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Sue Sampson; her daughter, Jill; and her niece, Sherri Vike. She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Holdman (Jason) and their three children: Emma, Hannah, and Clay; her sisters, Vickie Osborn and Barbara Vike; her nieces, Monica Denman, Ami Vike and Christina Osborn; and her nephews, Daniel Wilson and Darryl Wilson.
Through all the hard times, Peggy always trusted the Lord. Her favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
