LONGVIEW – Phillip William Lane, 71, died peacefully on January 17, surrounded by his loved ones at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler, Texas.
Phillip was born November 29, 1953 in Waco, Texas, where he graduated high school in 1971 and attended MCC thereafter. Also, residing in Overton, Texas and eventually settled in Longview, Texas. He dedicated a significant portion of his career to the food service sector and had a great time refereeing local football and baseball matches for many years. He wed the love of his life, Mary Elise Lane, in February 1985, and they marked 37 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2022.
During his lifetime, he took pleasure in preparing meals for relatives and friends. His areas of expertise comprised fried turkeys and the finest gumbo this side of New Orleans. He was an exceptional card player, a passionate supporter of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns, a devoted golfer, the biggest Beatles fan, and an outstanding storyteller. He genuinely was a person who lived beyond ordinary existence. His family, friends, and colleagues will profoundly miss his enthusiasm, humor, and integrity. Phil made memories of happy times; others observed them and participated in the experiences.
He was preceded in death by his spouse, Mary Elise Lane, who similarly passed away on January 17 in 2022. His loving parents, Rev. Danny and Maudie Lane, his brother, Daniel Mark Lane, his grandparents, Rev. A.C. “Grankin” Lane, Annabel “Grankin Mama” Lane, along with cousins Kathy Gibson and Jimmy Lane.
Phillip is survived by his fiancé Lisa Bewley, his sons, Patrick Lane (Autumn), Justin Perkins (Jodie), Jason Lane (Sarah). Grandchildren, Camden, Kylin, Finley, Bryce and Blake. Sisters, Martha Lutringer (Larry), Virginia Martinez (Oscar), and Mary Griffin (Todd). Numerous nephews and nieces; Pamela Scherrer (Kevin), and children Brittney, Bethany (Byron), Daniel. Jake Scherrer (Stephanie), and children Trey, Jayden, Conner (Annie), Anna, Jack, and Olivia. Chuck Scherrer (May), and son Johnny. Amanda Morris (Matt), and children Madison and Max. Rachel DeKoch (Stuart), and children Evelynn, Naomi, Savannah. Rebecca Clark (Derek). Oscar Martinez Jr. and Autumn Griffin, and cousins, Paul Lane, daughter Tami Risher and Tommy Anderson (Cindy) and children Mallory and Michael.
The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be at St Anthony’s Catholic Church in Longview, Texas on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 11:30am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of East Texas, a non-profit organization, in memory of Phillip Lane. Hospice of East Texas and their team were highly professional, prioritizing on his dignity and well-being. They turned his transition into an incredible experience for him and our family.
