Phyllis left this earth and arrived in heaven on August 4, 2026. She was 89 years old.

Phyllis Gleason Haas was born on June 10, 1937 to Lawrence (Doc) Gleason and Luella (Hartz) Gleason at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa.

She met the love of her life – Laurel Haas – while working on a Homecoming float in high school. Phyllis graduated from Marengo High School in 1955 and went to work at Amana Refrigeration as a receptionist. After Laurel returned from his Army enlistment, they were married on November 25, 1956 at First United Methodist Church in Marengo. They farmed the Haas family farm near Ladora, Iowa for many years. During one winter (1977), they started traveling to the Rio Grande Valley, Texas to enjoy the warmer weather.  They were winter Texans for many winters before moving permanently to LaFeria, TX in 1990.

Phyllis was very active on the farm tending to a large garden, raising two girls, attending all of their activities; as well as being very involved with Fundamental Gospel Church.  After the move to Texas she was the secretary of Rio Hondo Baptist Church for many, many years. Later, she and Laurel stayed closer to home and enjoyed attending First Baptist Church in LaFeria.  She and Laurel loved to travel and made many trips overseas and across the USA visiting family while enjoying the scenery and wildlife - she loved the mountains. Phyllis collected bride’s baskets and they enjoyed stopping at antique stores during their travels searching for them. Phyllis’s most favorite trip was to see the polar bears on a tour in Canada.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter Kim (Chris) Jackson of Bowie, MD; daughter Tammy (Ruben) Atencio of Palestine, TX, four grandchildren Adam (Amber) Jackson of Shurdington, England; Mark (Amanda) Jackson of St. Charles, MO, Daysha (Justin) Wells of Palestine, TX and Zachary Atencio of Palestine, TX; and six great grandchildren Oliver, Alfie and Neal; Sam and Peter; and Hannah plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Kay (Rick) Carson; and her beloved husband Laurel who passed away on June 3, 2023.

Phyllis was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and g-nanny, aunt and friend. She will be missed.
