Robert Patrick "Pat" McMillan passed away on July 4, 2026, at the age of 77, at his home in Tyler, TX. Born on February 22, 1949, in Tyler, Pat embarked on a life marked by adventure, humor, family and friends.
After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in 1968, Pat joined the United States Marine Corps, serving with the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion in Vietnam until 1970. His time in the Marines instilled in him a lifelong sense of strength and bravery, traits he carried throughout his life.
Following his military service, Pat pursued higher education at the University of North Texas before embarking on a career in high-rise construction, working on numerous projects across the United States. His work not only showcased his strong work ethic and dedication but also allowed him to indulge in his passion for traveling and experiencing different parts of the country.
He married his wife Diana Sue Keeton in 1981, and they raised their two daughters, Jill and Mary, in Tyler.
Pat was a man of many interests, including a love for fast cars, rock & roll, working out, and the great outdoors. He always enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his best friend Randy (or "Charles" as he would say.)
He was a lifetime lover of horses and dogs, and later in life he discovered a love for cats and would even invite the occasional hungry possum or raccoon inside for a snack.
Pat leaves behind a family who will miss him dearly while keeping his memory alive with all his fun stories. He is survived by his daughters, Jill Key and Mary Hardy; sons-in-law Aaron Key and Trey Hardy; and grandchildren Caden, Finn, Lillian, and Harrison who will always remember Papaw Pat. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diana "Susie" McMillan, and his mother, Michael Young McMillan.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Texas City Music Grill on Old Jacksonville Hwy in Tyler, on Saturday, July 25th from 2-4:30pm. The family invites friends to stop by, share stories about Pat, and enjoy snacks and drinks in his memory.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the ASPCA or The Hospice of East Texas, honoring Pat's compassionate spirit. Pat's legacy of strength, humor, and generosity will continue to inspire those who knew him.
