TYLER – Robert W (Bob) Stone passed from this earth on October 11, 2023 at the age of 85. Mr. Stone was born August 29, 1938 in Shreveport Louisiana to Thomas and May Stone. He graduated from Byrd High School in 1956, Tyler Junior College and The Southwestern School of Banking at Southern Methodist University (SMU). He joined the United States Marine Corps and served six and a half years as a jet engine mechanic stateside. While in the Marine Corps he married Judith Marie Kramer on June 10, 1961. After his discharge they moved to Shreveport in 1962 and transferred to Tyler in January 1965.
In Tyler he was in the banking business at Tyler Bank & Trust and Heritage National Bank. He decided to leave the banking business after 30 years and formed Global Mailing Service Inc. He then retired at the age of 62 to spend more time fishing and being with his family.
He was a member of Saint Francis Episcopal Church and served on the vestry and church building fund. He was fond of civic activities and joined the Tyler Jaycees and served in all positions to President in 1971. He received the Earl Story Award and The Arthur Leverett Award. He was also awarded the W.C. Windsor Award from the Tyler Chamber of Commerce as the outstanding young man under 35 yrs. He also served as President of the Tyler Retail Merchants Association, Cub Scouts, Red Cross, Chamber of Commerce Contact Club and the East Texas Bass Association.
He is preceded in death by his son Ronald Allen Stone (deceased in 1974). He is survived by his wife Judy and three sons Robert W. Stone Jr., James R. Stone and wife Diana, Richard T. Stone and wife Tina, a brother, James W. Stone of Beaumont Texas, brother-in-law Roger and wife Sandy Allenbrand, brother-in-law, Jim and wife Debbie Kramer, brother-in-law, Scott Kramer, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
