Roger Lavelle Terry, 71, of Neches, Texas passed away peacefully on the morning of October 29th, 2023. Roger was born on September 16th, 1952, to his parents Leo and Frances Terry in Jacksonville, Texas. Roger was raised in his hometown of Neches, Texas where he attended and graduated from Neches High School. Roger grew up learning how to farm and grow crops with his father. He spent most of his career in the oilfield until he retired. “Strong as an Ox”, “Tough as Nails”, and “Sharp as a Tack” are just some of the phrases used by many to describe his character. Roger was humble, good-hearted, and loved by many. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Frances Terry and his nephew, Justin Barlow. He is survived by his sisters Elaine Lightell and Kathy Barlow, both of Neches, his children Rachael Terry of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, her fiancée Dennis, and children Chyann and Caty and his son David Terry of Neches, Texas. Roger was known as “Pops” to his extended sons, Austin Vaughn and Johnathan “JR” Vaughn and their family. Left to honor his memory are also several nieces and nephews, and his beloved grandchildren who brought him the most joy.  

Visitation will be Thursday, November 2, 2023, and the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Boren-Connor Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Graveside services will be Friday, 10:00 a.m.,  November 3, 2023 at the Corine Cemetery in Jacksonville with Chaplain Mitch Stroda officiating.
