With profound sadness, we share the passing of Shelley Gay Scholz (born Shelley Gay Springfield), 80, of Houston, Texas, who passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025. A loving mother, devoted wife, and steadfast woman of faith, she spent her life nurturing others and sharing her deep love of Jesus Christ with all who knew her.

Born on October 29, 1945, in Houston, Texas, Shelley was known for her generous spirit, her adventurous heart, and her unwavering devotion to family and faith. She could be found leading Girl Scout troops, cheering from the bleachers at baseball practice, or riding horseback with the wind in her hair. She had a tender gift for rescuing and rehabilitating injured birds, and a lifelong love of painting, travel, and the open frontier — whether found in a western novel, a science fiction story, or on the road traveling alongside her husband’s band. Above all, Shelley lived to share the love of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her light shone brightly in every life she touched.

 She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold R. “Pete” Scholz Sr., and her daughter, June Gay Springfield and grandson Jarryl Ray Scholz.

She is survived by her children, William Mark Scholz and Harold “Ray” Scholz Jr.; her grandchildren, Crystal LeClere Strifley, Jennaca Michelle Scholz, Ariel Gould, Tre Junier, and Tyler Junier; and her great-grandchildren, Sarah Strifley, Adeline Junier, Kahlil Zehdi, Nadine Whitehead, and Anna Gould.
