Shirley “June” Griffin

Shirley “June” Griffin, age 73 of Tyler, Texas, surrounded by her loving family passed away on April 1, 2022 after a courageous battle of cervical cancer. She is predeceased by her parents Andrew and Gladys Vest, Sister Willie Beth Shaddox, and Brother Andrew “Shorty” Vest.

Born on November 2, 1948 in Kaufman, Texas. June held many talents and hobbies throughout her life. Prior to moving to Tyler, at 16, she was a bullrider at L. D. Bell High School in Bedford, Texas. As a junior at John Tyler High School while working as an attendant at “The Crest Drive-In Theatre”she met the love of her life, Assistant Manager James Michael Griffin. Shortly after dating, they married, traveled the world and raised two children.

June was a fierce woman-holding fast to her beliefs, defending those she loved, and offered wisdom from her life experiences. She was world renowned for her lack of patience, not holding back her opinion, strict, sugar coated nothing, and a knack for telling it like it is. She always told you the truth even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. She enjoyed spending time with family, playing on Facebook, reading, watching movies and series, and most of all enjoyed Vanilla Bean Blue Bell ice cream.

She will be sorely missed and survived by her husband of 57 years James Griffin, daughter Dawn “Tina” Griffin-Wiggins and husband Dallas Wiggins Jr., son Michael Griffin, 3 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, sister Alelia Folker and husband Joe Folker, brother Jimmy Vest, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. All whom loved her dearly and will never forget her tenacity, wit, charm, grace (when pertinent) and undying love and caring for them.

A “Celebration of Life” to be determined at a later date in Tyler, TX.The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Hospice of East Texas for their exceptional care.

"In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials or donations be sent on her behalf, to Hospice of East Texas"
