Tommie Gus Gibson was born in Plainview, Texas, to Glenn and Mildred (Greene) Gibson. He lived in Plainview until the family moved to Sunray, Texas, where he attended school before joining the U.S. Navy in 1965.
During his service, Gus was stationed aboard the USS Wasp, where he witnessed history as astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Jim Lovell were welcomed aboard following their four-day Gemini XII mission. He later served on the USS Intrepid (CVS-11) and proudly completed two tours in Vietnam, sailing the world throughout his Navy years.
At the end of his military service, Gus met the love of his life, Janice Rose (Gerigitan) Gibson, and the two were married in October 1969. Together, they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage and built a life filled with love, laughter, and family.
Gus is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Mildred Gibson. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jan Gibson, of Wright City, Texas; his daughters, Rhonda Kay Gibson and husband Anthony “Tony” Aguilar of Red Oak, Texas, and Glenda Kay Gibson and partner Shanne Miles of Red Springs, Texas; his beloved grandson, Hayden Gibson, and fiancée Autumn LaMotte of Tyler, Texas; his brother, Gary Gibson, and wife Jackie of Plano, Texas; his sister, Beverly Stone, and husband Wesley of Nashville, Arkansas; as well as his cherished nieces and nephew.
Gus lived a full and rich life and was the epitome of a family man. He loved nothing more than being surrounded by his wife, daughters, grandson, and extended family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all things outdoors, and had a special passion for carpentry and woodcraft. Gus adored his dogs, Hemi and Jager, and never stopped believing that his beloved Dallas Cowboys were headed back to the Super Bowl.
Gus was an amazing man who touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
