December 14, 1935 – May 12, 2025
Von Ross Prahl, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dedicated servant of faith, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, at the age of 89.
Born on December 14, 1935, Von was the son of the late Charles Prahl and Dona Edwards. He was preceded in death by his son, Durk Prahl.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Jane Prahl; daughter, Cecilia Jocelyne Vicars; and son, Joseph Kenneth Vicars. He was a proud grandfather to Heather Solis (husband Rolando), Lee Moore (wife Miranda), Joshua Nielsen, and Lardeo Brandenburgh. He also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren who brought great joy to his life.
Von’s life was marked by a deep commitment to faith, family, and service. He began leading singing in church at just 12 years old and remained a passionate song leader throughout his life. In 1958, he had the rare honor of appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show, a moment that highlighted his love for music and the arts.
In the late 1960s, Von and his wife opened their home and hearts as foster parents to four children, embodying the true spirit of generosity and compassion. His dedication to spreading the Gospel extended far beyond his local community—over a span of 26 years, he taught World Bible School courses to thousands of students across Africa, touching countless lives with his faith and guidance.
Von will be remembered for his humility, strong character, and unwavering devotion to both his family and his beliefs. He was a quiet but powerful example of integrity, kindness, and love in action.
A service to celebrate Von’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Southside Church of Christ. All who knew and loved Von are welcome to attend and honor his legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Von’s name.
