Wanza Laverne Ray, 79, of Corsicana, Texas entered into heaven on Sunday, June 28, 2026 after suffering a stroke. Wanza was born in Corsicana, Texas on September 16, 1946, to Roy Alonzo Ray and Thelma Naomi Goode Ray, who both passed when Wanza was a child. She was lovingly raised by her grandparents, Lorde & Ethel Goode. 

Wanza was a caregiver and found comfort in helping others. While her presence in our lives was sporadic, we acknowledge the complexities of her journey and the impact she had on us. We hope that she has finally found the peace in rest that eluded her in life.

She shared her life with her many siblings: Jean & Buck Holditch, Alton & Shirley Ray, Naomi and the late Cotton Johnston, the late Barbara & Earl Gilbert, and the late Myrtle Ray.

Wanza leaves behind her six children: Kim & Larry Aaron, Cynthia Elliott, Howard & Katherine Rios, Walter & Jalina Rios, Raul Armando Rios, Jr. (Scooter) & Cindy Rios, and Angela & Lance Young.

She also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Wanza is preceded in death by two of her grandchildren, Layne Virginia Young and Tristan Christopher Rios.

"Goodbyes are not forever. Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean I miss you until we meet again."

A celebration of life is to be determined at a later date. The family would like to say a huge "Thank you" to her numerous caregivers, doctors, and nurses. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
